OBITUARY: Margaret (Hartwig) Rice, 1909-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa

Funeral services for Margaret Rice, age 93, of Osage were held Monday,
January 13, 2003 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson
and Rev. Roy Ott Officiated. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Margaret
died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

She was born April 24, 1909 in Pekin, IL. At six years of age she was adopted
by Mrs. Ferd "Lena" Hartwig of Osage. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at
St. John's Lutheran Church south of Osage. In 1930 she married Smith Rice
and they spent most of their life in Osage. She was one of the original
employees of the Faith Lutheran Home where she worked for a few years.
After retiring she was an active volunteer in church and hospital work.
Margaret was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. She also
loved to fish.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Smith in 1966, her step-brother
Walter Hartwig and nephews John Rice, Dr. Dean Rice and Robert "Bob" Hartwig.

Her survivors include three nieces Joanne Decker and husband Lester of Osage,
Gloria Rice of Osage and Marilyn Rice Horner and husband Bill of Ohio.
