OBITUARY: Arthur Sponheim, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 5 MAR 1981] Arthur Sponheim Funeral Held At Rock Creek Lutheran Funeral services for Arthur Sponheim, 87, of Osage, who died February 27 at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital, were held March 2 at Rock Creek Lutheran church, rural Osage, with the Rev. Paul Metzger officiating. Arthur Sponheim was born June 3, 1893 on the family farm near Meroa in Cedar township, the son of Magnus and Julia (Bergo) Sponheim. He attended rural schools near his home, St. Ansgar Seminary and Waldorf College. He married Gertie Maakestad April 4, 1917. They continued farming on the home farm until their retirement to Osage in 1980. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran church and remained a lifelong member. Mr. Sponheim is survived by his wife, Gertie; one son, Harold, rural Osage; one daughter, Ruth of Fort Dodge; eight grandchildren and one great grandson; one brother, Ingvold of Osage. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Gertrude Hugi and Dorothy Sponheim; his parents; two sisters and one brother. Burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran church cemetery with Rev. Metzger in charge of the committal services.
