OBITUARY: Sidney Stott, 1926-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online - Posted April 2, 2003 - www.mcpress.com ] Sidney Stott Funeral services were held for Sidney Stott, age 76, of Mesa, Arizona on Thursday, April 3 at Apache Wells Community Church. His body was cremated and interment will be held at a later date in Mesa. Sidney died Monday, March 31, 2003 of heart failure. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 9, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, IA. There will be coffee, rolls and visiting with the family at 9 am followed by the celebration service at 10 am. Sidney Stott was born in Mason City, IA on June 10, 1926 the son of Sidney Stott, Sr. and Avis Wineman. He graduated from Mason City High School. He was married to Shirley Leaman on January 5, 1946 and had a wonderful 57 years of marriage. He served in the Army during World War II. After his military service, he attended and received his Masters Degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1951. He taught instrumental music at Cal Community Schools before moving to Osage where he retired after 37 years of teaching. His love for music and his students was well known. His students were known as "Sid's Kids" for many years and he touched many lives. Sidney belonged to the American legion, Rotary International and was past president of the Iowa Bandmasters Association. He served as church organist for the United Methodist Church in Osage for many years. He continued his passion for music in recent years by providing keyboard music for many community functions and parties. After his retirement from teaching, Sid and Shirley decided to give up the cold winters of Iowa and move to sunny Arizona where they have resided the past seven years. Sid's survivors include his wife Shirley of Mesa; two sons Thomas and his wife Karen of Bettendorf and Stephen and his wife Deanna of Omaha; a daughter Shelley Grimm and her husband Robert of New Haven; five grandchildren David Stott and wife Samantha of Omaha; Jennifer Stott of Waukee; Michael Stott and his wife Angie of Omaha; Rebecca Stott of Urbandale and Jackie Muller and her husband Justin of Osage; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Stott, Peter Charles and Hayleigh Charles, all of Omaha and a sister-in-law Bonnie Nettleton and her husband Terry of Mason City.
