OBITUARY: Clara Tidemanson Brogmus, 1882-1981, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 12 FEB 1981] Clara Brogmus Funeral Held Here Saturday, February 7 Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Brogmus, 98, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center February 4, were held February 7 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Clara Tidemanson Brogmus was born [February ?] 14, 1882 on a farm south of St. Ansgar, the daughter of Ole and Annie (Nelson) Tidemanson. Here she grew up with her four brothers, spending much time in the wooded areas along the Cedar River that adjoined the farm. She attended the rural elementary schools and St. Ansgar Seminary. As a young person, Mrs. Brogmus worked part time in a general store in Mitchell, and it was at this time that she started doing the fancy embroidery and hand work for which she is remembered. February 14, 1907 she married Christian H. Brogmus at the First Lutheran church where she had been baptized and confirmed. They made their home in St. Ansgar. Widowed in 1933, Mrs. Brogmus continued to lead a busy life in the community. Her church and its activities were always foremost in her life, but she was also active in community work, being a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Woman’s Club and the Wa-Tan-Ye Club. After January 1, 1944 Mrs. Brogmus became actively employed with the Allied Service Corporation here and continued in that capacity until she retired in the early 1960’s. These daily contacts with the people of the community were a source of much satisfaction and real enjoyment to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, her husband and two infants. Mrs. Brogmus is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Orval (Maurine) Ause of Hinsdale, Ill; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of committal services.
