OBITUARY: Grace A. Zirwes, 1888-1980, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 27 NOV 1980] Grace A. Zirwes Funeral Held Here Monday, Nov. 24 Funeral services for Mrs. Grace A. Zirwes, 92, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center Friday, November 21, were held Monday, November 24 at the Schroeder Funeral Home here with the Rev. Bruce Wittern, pastor of the St. Ansgar United Methodist church, officiating. Grace Almira Zirwes was born September 6, 1888 at the Cleveland homestead, Rock township, the daughter of Myron H. and Elia (DuShane) Cleveland. She attended school at Rock Number 3. June 30, 1919 she married Harry F. Zirwes at the her family farm home. They made their home in Milwaukee, Wis. Her husband died in 1964. Mrs. Zirwes remained in Wisconsin until 1968 when she came to St. Ansgar to be a resident at the Good Samaritan Center and to be near her niece and family. Mr. and Mrs. Zirwes had no children. She was the last survivor of her family. Her husband, one brother, two sisters and her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include nieces and nephews: Mrs. William Neeley of St. Ansgar; Mrs. James Rhinehart of Oceanside, Calif.; Alton Gilbertson of Texas; Gary Gilbertson of California; Mrs. Richard Wallace of Mason City and Mrs. Veylord Kuker, Sumner. Burial was in the Cleveland family plot in the Osage cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of the committal services.
