OBITUARY: George L. Badker, Jr., 1933-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell Co. Press-News online - Posted May 14, 2003] George L. Badker, Jr. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13, 2003 for George L. "Sonny" Badker, Jr.. age 70 of Osage at the First Baptist Church in Osage. The Reverend Roger Davies officiated. George was cremated and inurnment will be at a later date at the Osage Cemetery. He died Friday, May 9, 2003 at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage. George, Jr. was born February 22, 1933 in Riceville, IA the son of George and Florence (Dargan) Badker. He married Delores Baker on July 14, 1956. They had six children. George, Jr. joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. He served during the Korean conflict. He was a farm hand most of his life, working for various farmers in the area. He loved fishing, hunting and was an avid bowler for many years. George, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, an infant brother Billy and a sister Constance Duren. George is survived by his wife, Delores; two sons, Michael "Mick" Badker and Robert "Bob" Badker and wife Julie of Osage; four daughters, Kim Cooper and husband Tom of Bonifay, FL, Kristi Badker and special friend Robi Meyer of Osage, Barb Anderson and special friend Dale Place of Klemme; and Brenda Minter and husband Bob of Belmond. George has 14 grandchildren and 4 great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his mother Florence of Osage; four brothers: Gregory "Bud" Badker of Osage; Larry Badker and wife Isabel of Plattesville, CO; Doug Badker and wife Sue of Osage; Bernie Badker and wife Deidre of New Hartford; three sisters Nancy Potter of Osage; Norma Colgrove and husband Don of Black Hawk, SD and Mary Perrin and husband Dick of Osage, many nieces and nephews. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage was in charge of arrangements.
