OBITUARY: Anthony Rolfe Carter Jr., 1838-1914, Mitchell Co., Iowa Anthony R. Carter Anthony R. Carter was born in Methwold, Norfolk County England September 14, 1838 and died at his home in Osage, April 12, 1914, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 29 days. Mr. Carter came to America with his parents in 1851, and settled in Dane county Wis. After four years the family moved to Mitchell county Iowa, locating on a farm in Cedar Township. He was married in 1862, April 23, to Ann Thompson. More than thirty years ago he joined the Methodist Episcopal church, and with his wife in Christian faith, finding there guiding principals for conduct, inspiration and strength for the work of life and comfort and hope both for the life that now is, and for that which is to come. For many years Mr. Carter had endured the loss of sight in both eyes, but was otherwise in fair health. He passed away on Easter Sunday afternoon, having been spared long illness and little apparent suffering. He leaves a wife; son, George A. Carter, a daughter, Sarah J. Carter, both of Osage, two brothers, sixteen grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. The funeral occurred from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:00. In the absence of his pastor, Rev. Frank Court, the services were conducted by Rev. Rolla E.
