OBITUARY: Derald Raymond Cowell, 1916-1981, Mitchell County, Iowa [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 15 OCT 1981] Derald Cowell Funeral Held At First Lutheran Church Funeral services for Derald R. Cowell, 65, who died at his home in Otranto October 6, were held October 9 at First Lutheran church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Derald Raymond Cowell was born June 1, 1916 in Eldora, the son of Ray and Esther (Cummings) Cowell. He was a veteran of World War II and served two and a half years overseas. He married Corine Lucille Dahl November 11, 1945, and they spent most of their married life farming in the St. Ansgar area. Five children were born to them. Mr. Cowell is survived by his wife, Corine of Otranto; two sons, Dean of Kensett and James of Otranto; three daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Karen) Bolding of Plymouth; Avis Koster of Lake Mills and Mrs. Michael (Janet) Koster of Grafton; his stepmother, Hilda Cowell of New Richland; a sister, Marion Rieks of Eldora; three half brothers, Robert, Charles and Danny Cowell; one brother, Vern Cowell; one half sister, Margaret Conway; also nine grandchildren. Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of committal services. Military honors were presented by Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.
