OBITUARY: John Gast 1839-1923, Mitchell Co., Iowa Obituary of John Gast Who Passed Away at McIntire The following obituary of John Gast, who passed away July 2, was handed to us this week. Mr. Gast was an old Mitchell County resident and well known here. John Gast was born in Germany Sept 12, 1839 and died at McIntire on July 2, 1923. He came to America in 1845, or rather to Canada, and was married there in 1861 to Miss Catherine Heimbuch. They moved to Allamakee County, Iowa in 1910. Mrs. Gast passed away a year later. They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy, and one in middle age. Those who survive are Mrs. J.F. Watcher of Waukon Iowa; A.N. Gast of Nora Springs; Mrs. H. Erbe, Osage; J.F. Gast, Sanborn; Mrs. A.E. Adams, McIntire; Mrs. Dave Gast, Nora Springs; Walter and Ira, of Riceville Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Adams home at 2pm, Rev. Bodenham conducting the service. Mr. Gast joined the church when he was a young man and was prominent in church activities all his life. Gast is John F. Gast; Mrs. A.E. Adams is Lydia Gast, wife of Alden E. Adams; and Mrs. Dave Gast is Matilda (Till) Gast who married her first cousin David Gast.
