OBITUARY: Daniel Gilles, 1923-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press-News online - Posted June 4, 2003 ] Daniel Gilles Funeral services for Daniel Gilles, age 80, of Adams were held Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Reverend Gregory Leif officiated. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams, MN. Adams American Legion Post #146 was in charge of Military Rites. Daniel died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Adams Health Care Center. Daniel Gilles was born January 11, 1923 in Stacyville, IA the son of Roy and Anna (Seibert) Gilles. He grew up in Stacyville, IA and was graduated from Visitation Catholic School in 1941. He joined the United States Navy on October 2, 1942 and served his country during WWII until his honorable discharge in February 1946. He married Gloria Creedy on September 30, 1944 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. They moved to Adams, MN where they remained raising their family and being a part of the community. He worked as a meat cutter at Wagner Foods for 51 years. Daniel was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a retired Adams Volunteer Fireman, past Adams City Council member and Justice of the Peace as well as a 50-plus year member of the Adams American Legion. His hobbies included fishing and camping with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gilles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilmer, Wilfred and Vernon Gilles, a sister Adeline Krebsbach and granddaughter Jody Michelle Gilles. He is survived by his wife Gloria Gilles of Adams, MN; sons and daughters- in-law Colin and Connie Gilles of Stewartville, MN, Charles and Linda Gilles of Adams, MN, Clair Gilles of Austin, MN, Denis Gilles of Mantorville, MN, Robert and Dawn Gilles of Rose Creek, MN, Brian and Chandra Gilles of Adams, MN; daughters and sons-in-law Dawn and Richard Greeley of Osage, IA; Karen and Pudge Longueville of Austin, MN, 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Reuben and Ardella Gilles of Austin, MN, Paul and Gert Gilles of Waterloo, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law Marion Johnson of Austin, MN, Theresa and Greg Langenfeld of Dunlap, IA, Elizabeth Hemann of Stacyville, IA and Marvin Krebsbach, also of Stacyville. Adams Funeral Home, Adams, MN had charge of arrangements.
