OBITUARY: Viola (Hultman) McPhail Alice Peterson, 1904-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [ Posted May 28, 2003; Mitchell County Press-News online - www.mcpress.com ] Viola McPhail Alice Peterson Funeral services were held Tuesday at Garden View Chapel for Viola McPhail Alice Peterson, age 98, of Waterloo. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery. She died Thursday, May 22, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes. Viola was born October 5, 1904 in Little Cedar, the daughter of August, Senior and Carrie Seversen Hultman. She married Lynn McPhail on January 10, 1924 in Charles City. After Lynn's death she married Irving J. Peterson August 5, 1941 in Red Wing, MN. She was employed in the Trim Department at the Rath Packing Company for 36 years, retiring in 1966. Viola graduated from Little Cedar School in 1921, Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage in 1922 and was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death were her first husband Lynn and her husband Irving in 1997 her parents, one son Norman, a granddaughter Mary Lea Leonard, a great-great-grandson in infancy, five brothers Albert, Martin, Arnold, August, Junior and Galen Hultman, four sisters, twin sister Violet Decker, Cordelia Hultman, Bessie Johnson and Helen Culbertson. She is survived by one son Russell McPhail and his wife Zona of Waterloo, four grandsons David McPhail of Madison, TN, Scott McPhail of Denver, CO, Brian McPhail of Osage and Jay McPhail of Hanley Falls, MN, two granddaughters Jeanne Bruggeman of Northwood and Margie Musch of Washburn, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
