OBITUARY: Howard D. Lovik, 1927-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Adapted from: Mitchell County-Press-News online - Posted Oct. 29, 2003 ] Howard D. Lovik Funeral services will be held for Howard D. Lovik, 76, of rural Orchard at 1 pm Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church (1921 317th St., south of Osage). The Reverend Christian F. Gugel will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd with military graveside services by Orchard American Legion Post 641. Visitation is from 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday at the Champion-Burcheit Funeral Home in Osage. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Howard died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Howard Lovik was born to Henry and Anna (Winterton) Lovik on Oct. 1, 1927 at Forest City. He attended rural schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Howard was united in marriage to Belvia Wood Ring on Aug. 7, 1976 at St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union one son, Brian Henry was born. Howard retired from farming and worked in the foundry at Oliver in Charles City. He belonged to Orchard American Legion Post 641. He was preceded in death by his parents. Howard's survivors include his wife Belvia of Orchard; one son Brian Lovik and his wife Lexia of Dawnson Springs, Kentucky; five stepchildren Monty Ring and his wife Twyla of Greene; Teresa Dorsey and her husband Pat of Osage; Greg Ring of Orchard; Arlys May and her husband Russ of Kasson, Minnesota; Bruce Ring and his wife Rita During of St. Paul, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers Clemons Lovik of Mitchell; Harley Lovik of Sherrill, Iowa and Wayne Lovik of Floyd; two sisters Ethel Holcomb of Des Moines and Dorothy Harris of Floyd; many nieces and nephews.
