OBITUARY: Margaret (McFarland) McGrath, 1835-1920, Mitchell Co. Iowa Margaret McFarland-McGrath Margaret McFarland was born in County Terrone, Ireland, June 30, 1835, and passed to her earthly reward at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. R. Martin, 619 E. 56th street north, Portland Ore., early Monday morning, Feb. 16, 1920. Orphaned of both parents at a very early age, she resided with an uncle until coming to America in her young womanhood, living first in Illinois and later in Iowa, where she married to James McGrath in 1864, residing for many years at Osage, Iowa. She was very definitely converted at 10 years of age and remained a devout Christian to the time of her death. Her church membership for the past eight years was the First Friends church, Portland Ore. She had been failing rapidly in health for a number of months, but was able to be about the home until Saturday, the 14th, when she gradually sank into the sleep from which she awakened in the great beyond. She is survived by four children, twenty-three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her remains, accompanied by her son, will be taken to the old Iowa home to be laid beside the remains of her husband, who has awaited her coming for more than forty years. Brief services were conducted in the Methodist church by Rev. L.C. Lemon and the body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Osage cemetery on Monday of this week.
