OBITUARY: Robert A. Michels, 1932-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online - Posted Aug. 20, 2003] Robert A. Michels A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Robert A. "Bob" Michels, age 70, of Sauk Centre, formerly of Shakopee, MN on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Shakopee. The Rev. Joseph P. Fink and Rev. Larry Blake officiated. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery, Shakopee. Military honors were conducted by the Shakopee Veterans Memorial Unit. Michels died Aug. 7, 2003 at St. Michael's Hospice, Sauk Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert Michels was born at McIntire, on Oct. 21, 1932 to Leo and Pauline (Werner) Michels. He was united in marriage to Bette Schammel on Dec. 27, 1955 at Rose Creek, MN. He was an accountant and owned and operated Michels Accounting and Tax in Shako-pee prior to his retirement. Robert was an Eagle Scout, a 35-year honorary life member of James Campbell 1685 Knights of Columbus of Shakopee, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, was a member of the American Legion and a 35-year member of St. Mary's Church Choir. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Germaine Michels, grandson Griffin Robert Michels and other relatives. His survivors include his wife of 48 years Bette, children Cindy (John) Engebretson of Sauk Centre; Mari (Steve) Thomas of Excelsior; Dan (Carrie) Michels of Stacy; Katie (Jeff) Geske; Jon (Linda) Michels; Tony (Kathee) Michels all of Shakopee; grandchildren Heidi (Tim) Hackbarth; John Jr. (Jolene) Engebretson; David and Matthew Engebretson, Michael, Joseph, Jeffrey and Stephen Thomas, Greg, Maggie and Mollie Geske, Lance and Cory Michels, Evan and Corbin Michels; great-grandchildren Shelby and Elizabeth Engebret-son, Riley and Colin Hackbarth, other relatives and friends.
