OBITUARY: Ernest C. Moran, 1923-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News - www.mcpress.com - Posted May 14, 2003] Ernest C. Moran Funeral services for Ernest C. Moran, age 79, of Sumner were held at 11 am Friday. May 9, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner. Reverend John Battern officiated. Committal services were held at 3 pm Friday, May 9 at the Osage Municipal Cemetery in Osage, IA. Ernest died after a short illness on Sunday, May 4, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Ernest Clark Moran, son of Clive and Minnie Clark Moran was born June 20, 1923 at Osage, IA. He received his education in the Osage schools, graduating from Osage High School in 1940. From January of 1943 until February of 1945 Ernie served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy. On March 25, 1945 Ernest Moran and Marjorie Smalley were united in marriage at the Congregational Church in Osage. A resident of Sumner for many years, Ernie was employed as an office manager and owner of Meadowview Feed Store in Tripoli until retiring in 1995. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Sumner, Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner, the River City Barbershop Chorus of Mason City and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing and singing. Ernest was preceded in death by one son David Moran in 1954 and his parents. He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Sumner; one son Kerry (Michelle) Moran of Oelwein; two daughtes Kathy (Sylvan) Mutschler of Linden, AL and Beth (Curtis) Senft of LaVista, NE; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother Richard Moran of Michigan.
