OBITUARY: C. Hugh Neeley, 1918-2003, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Posted May 28, 2003; Mitchell County Press-News online - www.mcpress.com ] C. Hugh Neeley Funeral services for C. Hugh Neeley, 85, of St. Ansgar, were held Friday, May 9, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. Rev. Jay Amundson officiated. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Neeley died Monday, May 5, 2003 at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, IA. Hugh was born on February 15, 1918, in rural Manly, IA to Royal and Elsie (Bowman) Neeley. Hugh's education was in rural schools in the Manly-Plymouth area. He moved with his parents to a farm northeast of St. Ansgar in 1933 and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1936. Following graduation Hugh farmed. For 12 years he operated a portable feed mill, grinding feed for farmers. In August of 1937 he married Viola Louise Lorenzen. This this union was born four children. They had a large dairy/grain farm in the St. Ansgar/ Toeterville area until retiring in 1987. Viola passed away on June 19, 1983. Hugh married Virginia E. Larsen Adams on March 14, 1987. They made their home in St. Ansgar. They wintered in Texas from 1987 to 1999. Hugh was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife Viola, an infant brother, two brothers Elwyn in 1988 and Jean in 1989, one great-granddaughter and son-in-law Paul Spindler. Hugh is survived by his wife Virginia of St. Ansgar, two daughters, Marcella Spindler (Marlyn) Gahm of Pearl City, IL, Beverly (Roger) Bartz of Osage, IA, two sons Garry (Julie) Neeley and Keith (Virginia) Neeley, all of St. Ansgar, 10 grandchildren, Rebecca Spindler and daughter Lorilee of Freeport, IL, Craig Spindler of Stacyville, IA, Vanessa (John) Huisman and children Amanda, Dianna, Matthew and Clarissa of Osage, IA, Darlyne (Paul) Huisman and children Rachel and Chelsey and Christine (Nicholas) Johnson and daughter Emily, all of St. Ansgar, Angela Bartz McEachran (Terry) and daughter Taylor of Mason City, IA, Jennifer Bartz (Joshua) Hinders of Osage, IA, Julie (Dan) Baer and children Jayna, Ashley and Britney of Little Cedar, IA, Karen (Brian) King of St. Ansgar, Aaron (Ingritt) Neeley of Little Cedar, two brothers William (Jeannette) Neeley and Marion (Chareen) Neeley, all of St. Ansgar, two sisters-in-law Dorothy Neeley of State Center, IA and Bertha Neeley of St. Ansgar, also many nieces and nephews. Hugh is also survived by Virginia's children Donna and Lewis Swalve of Garner, IA, Daryl and Beverly Adams of Buffalo Center, IA, Darwin and Thelma Adams of Thompson, IA, Diana and Dale Kramersmeier of Buffalo Center, IA, Doug and Harriet Adams of Fort Dodge, IA and Denise and Mike Eenhuis of Wakefield, KS.
