OBITUARY: Gladys (Olson) Shoger 1909-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online - posted 7-23-2003] Gladys Shoger Funeral services for Gladys Shoger, age 94, of Osage were held Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage; Rev. Christian F. Gugel officiated. Interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Osage. Gladys died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Gladys was born May 27, 1909 in Cedar Township Mitchell County, the daughter of Gustav and Bertina (Torblaa) Olson. She was educated in rural schools and graduated in 1927 from Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. Gladys was united in marriage to Fred Shoger on January 19, 1929 in Osage. They farmed in Rock Township, retiring and moving to Osage in 1970. Fred died January 20, 1976. Gladys was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at Mitchell County Regional Health Center and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Fred, two brothers Olaf Olson and Glenn Olson, a son Duane Shoger, a grandson, Paul Anderson and a great-grandson, Daniel Counsell. Her survivors include one son Dale (Kathryn) Shoger of Osage; one daughter Darlene (Arthur) Anderson of Big Lake, MN; four granddaughters Linda (Kenneth) Brandau, of Rudd; Donna (Robert) Counsell, Osage; Judy (Andreas) Schramm, St. Paul, MN; Marcia (James) Rosendahl, Osage and 12 great- grandchildren.
