OBITUARY: Jennie J. Akeright Mahaffey, 1868-1936, Mitchell Co., Iowa Jennie J. (Akeright) Mahaffey Jennie J. Akeright was born in Marshall County, Illinois, on January 29, 1868, and passed from this life in her home at Riceville at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on October 31, 1936, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and two days. She was one of the six children of Absalom and Elenor Akeright, Pennsylvania-Dutch pioneers to Illinois, whose stock has had a very prominent part in the early development of the great Middle West. She attained maturity under the fine influences of a Christian home and on September 30, 1891, was united in marriage to Andrew Mahaffey at Buckley, Illinois. To this union were born three sons, Jesse H., Frank R., and Arthur L. Cecile, a child of eight, came to live in the home and was accepted as a daughter and sister in the family. In 1905, the little family first located in Iowa near LeRoy, Minnesota and in 1911, moved to a farm just south of Riceville. Here they remained until 1920 when the family came to Riceville where their home has since been located. Mrs. Mahaffey had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church from early life. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Andrew Mahaffey, three sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mahaffey and sons Curtis and Maurice of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mahaffey of Mason City, Iowa; Arthur L. Mahaffey of Riceville; a daughter, Mrs. Cecile Kephart and husband and children, Violet and Myrna of Mankato, Minnesota; and Frank Akeright, only surviving brother, of Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Riceville on Monday at 2 o'clock with Rev. F.M. Garrett officiating. Interment was in the Riverside cemetery.
