OBITUARY: Guy D. Benson, 1934-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Adapted from: Mitchell County-Press-News online - Posted Feb. 18, 2004] Guy D. Benson Funeral services for Guy D. Benson, age 70, of Dike, Iowa, and formerly of Orchard, Iowa, were held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Orchard, with the Reverend William Griffee officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery. Guy died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 in Torrance, CA. Guy D. Benson was born Feb. 3, 1934 on the family farm in East Lincoln Township, Mitchell County, to Paul A. and Helen A. (Hoisington) Benson. He attended country school and graduated from Orchard High School in 1951. He attended Luther College in Decorah for two years. Guy was united in marriage to Nedra Lack on Feb. 1, 1954 in Leon, Iowa. They moved to Inglewood, California, in 1954, at which time he began work at the "Hollywood Turf Club" racetrack. During the 33 years he worked there he became superintendent of grounds maintenance. They lived in Inglewood, Hawthorne, Anaheim and Yorba Linda, California, prior to Nedra's death in 1998. Guy retired from the racetrack and built several homes, moving to Lakewood, California, and then to Dike, Iowa. Guy was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and steadfastly loyal to his friends. Guy was preceded in death by his parents Paul A. and Helen Benson, his wife Nedra Lack Benson in 1998, brother Paul D. Benson and sister-in-law Hazel A. Benson. He is survived by two daughters: Deborah Benson, Long Beach, California, Denise Lynch and husband James of Lomita, California; three grandchildren: Michael Huss, Long Beach, California, Michael Lynch, Torrance, California, Megan Lynch, Torrance, California, sister Imogene Barton (Dean) of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, four brothers: Wayne Benson (Audrey) of Aurora, Colorado, Wesley Benson (Patricia) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Darwin Benson (Carole) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and John Benson (Medguel) of Red Bluff, California.
