OBITUARY: Clara Elizabeth (Bird) Cummings, 1876-1936, Mitchell Co., Iowa Clara Elizabeth Cummings Clara Elizabeth, daughter of Reuben and Ellen Bird, was born at Batavia, Kane County, Illinois, on the 26th day of November, 1876, and passed away on the 2nd day of March, 1936, at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 6 days. When about 10 years of age she moved with her parents to a farm near Little Cedar, where she spent the following five years of her life, and then moved to a farm south of the Pleasant Valley schoolhouse, and it was here that she was united in marriage to William Franklin Cummings in 1893 and went with him to the farm home he had made ready for her and where she has since made her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. To this union were born the following children: William C., of Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. John Bloes, of Gilbertville, Iowa; Edward H., of Austin; Mrs. Albert Sargent, of Waterloo; Oliver H., at home; Mrs. Frank Tyler, at home; Mrs. John Haehn, McIntire; Ralph and France, at home; Raymond F., St. Ansgar; Gilbert B., at home; Mrs. Elza Enfield, Riceville. Besides the immediate family, this mother left behind twenty-five living grandchildren; two sisters - Mrs. George Nicholson, Little Cedar, and Mrs. Roberts, Riceville; three brothers - Walter and Alfred Bird, of this vicinity; and Roy of Independence; also a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Tiffany, pastor of the Community church at Little Cedar. Burial was made in the Osage cemetery.
