OBITUARY: Thomas G. Doran, 1847-1931, Mitchell Co.,Iowa Thomas Doran Thomas G. Doran, well known in this community, died Thursday evening, January 30, 1934, after a long illness at his home here. Mr. Doran has been for some time the oldest man in McIntire. He was born twelve miles from Dublin, Ireland, May 1, 1847. When he was but 2 years old his mother passed away. At the age of 4 he came with his father and other children, also Grandma Doran, to America. They arrived at Boston and later moved to Utica, New York, where they resided for two years. At the age of 6 the family moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he lived until he came to Mitchell County, Iowa, May 5, 1867. On March 2, 1869, Thomas Doran was united in marriage to Miss Katie Connelly, at Rockford, Illinois. To this union ten children were born. The mother and five children preceded him in death. Those remaining are: Mrs. Margaret Condon, Riceville; Andrew, of Alberta, Canada; Miss Mary Doran of Chicago; Francis, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Mrs. Bernice Hugebach, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. On August 2, 1905, Mr. Doran was united in marriage to Miss Lena Frank, of McIntire. Three children came to bless their home - Laura, now Mrs. Gilbert Rathman, of Hampton, Iowa; Miss Alice, of Wahpola, South Dakota; and James, of Elma, Iowa. Other than these are sixeren grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends who will greatly miss his cheerful smile and pleasant words. Mr. Doran was 86 years, 8 month, and 29 days old at the time of his death. He had been a resident of McIntire for the past twenty years and had lived in Mitchell county since 1867. Funeral services were held in the Catholic church Friday morning, February 2, conducted by the Rev. Hetherington, of Riceville.
