OBITUARY: James M. Dunlay, 1919-2004, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on obituary in Mitchell County Press-News online, Posted August 4, 2004] James M. Dunlay Memorial services for James Maurice Dunlay, 84, of Clear Lake, Iowa, were held Saturday July 31, 2004 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven, Iowa, with Rev. Ray Atwood officiating. Inurnment was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. James died Monday July 26, 2004 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Oakwood Care Center Activity Fund. James was born Oct. 23, 1919 Riceville, Iowa, the son of Vincent and Matilda (Kleckner) Dunlay. He attended Riceville High School. James married Luella Marr Nov. 3, 1942 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven. He lived in Milwaukee during WWII where he worked at a defense factory building parts for planes. James moved to New Haven where he farmed until 1956, moving to Waterloo. He was a salesman for Nutrena Feeds. In 1967 he moved to Postville where he worked for the turkey plant in sales. In 1980 James moved to Manson where he was involved in Sears Catalog sales and operating a grocery business until his retirement in 1992 and moved to Woden. In 2001 he moved to Garner and in 2003 moved to Oakwood Care Center to be by his wife. He enjoyed camping, fishing, going to ballgames and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved telling stories and having coffee while visiting with friends. James will be missed by three children: Ronald Dunlay and his wife Sue, Ft. Madison, Iowa, Kathy Mortensen and her husband Ken, Ventura, Iowa, and John Dunlay and his wife Debbie, Cheyenne, Wyoming; fifteen grandchildren Jennifer and her husband Derek, Sara and her husband Ryan, Ronnie, Joe, Bridget, Angela, Chris, Kristi, Aaron, Nate and his wife Heather, Chad, Amy, Patricia, Shelly and her husband Fred, and David and his wife Joy; nine great-grandchildren Alyssa, James, Anthony, Jordan, Hunter, Tucker, Sarah, Evan and Ethan; one sister Dorothy Fox and her husband James and one brother Terry Dunlay and his wife Diane and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Luella May 23, 2004; three brothers Rusty, Keith and Rex and one sister Kate.
