OBITUARY: Berdene Henriette Fink Lockwood, c1910-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Adapted from: Mitchell County-Press-News online - Posted 2/25/04 ] Berdene Lockwood Private family services will be held in New York City, at a later date and inurnment will be at the Orchard Cemetery for Berdene Henriette Lockwood of Osage. She died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Berdene was born in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of Charles A. and Frances (Lhamon) Fink. She attended country schools in the area and in Devonia and graduated from Orchard High School. Berdene attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, majoring in elementary music education. In 1932 she married Marvin Claire Lockwood of New Haven in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Berdene made Osage her home from 1945 until 1959 and was a member of the First Congregational Church. She moved to New York City to live with her daughter's family and was employed as a receptionist at the Japan Trade Center and radio station WNEW, and was a saleswoman at Martin's Department Store. Since 1981, after her retirement she returned to live in Osage. Her interests included the theater and ballet, fashion and collecting Wedgwood and Lalique. Berdene was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers Milo, Elwyn, Dale and Edwin Fink. Her survivors include a daughter Diane Olsen of Brooklyn, New York, two grandchildren Laura Olsen of Norwalk, Connecticut, and Christopher Olsen of Manhattan, New York, and two beloved nieces Phyllis Coyle of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Connie Mauser of Port Aransas, Texas.
