OBITUARY: William Frederick Funte, 1868-1934, Mitchell Co, Iowa William Funte William Frederick Funte, eldest child of August and Elizabeth Funte, was born March 1, 1868, in Boise, Wisconsin, and passed away at his home east of McIntire January 5, 1934, of cerebral apoplexy. At the age of 14 William traveled with his parents from the Wisconsin home to St. Ansgar, Iowa. Here they lived for several years, during which William was confirmed in the German Lutheran faith with a class of that community. Later they moved to Burr Oak and from there to a farm near New Haven. On July 9, 1895, he was united in marriage to Arpha Mae Elliott, and 1909 they moved to their present home. To their happy union were born two children, one daughter, Laura, and a son, Glenn. Laura preceded her father down the valley eleven months ago. Willliam Funte leaves to miss his voice and cheery presence, his wife, son, three sisters, Mrs. C. Greeley, of Riceville; Lizzie and Anna, of Elma; five brothers, A.J. of Riceville; Henry of Alta Vista; Walter and George of Elma; Otto of Charles City; and three small grandchildren - Harley, Earl and Ruth - Laura's children. His brother Ed passed away October 22, 1931. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Riceville, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Zimmerman, pastor of the McIntire and Riceville Methodist churches. Interment was made in the Riceville Cemetery. Copyright 2004, Merri Cross Note: I am not a relative.
