OBITUARY: George Funte, 1884-1934, Mitchell Co., Iowa George Funte George Funte was born at Burr Oak, Iowa, March 7, 1884, and was baptized in the Lutheran faith when a child. He passed away at his home January 17, 1934, being 49 years, 10 months, and 10 days old. Death was caused by pneumonia, and came as a great shock as he was sick only three days, and his passing was only twelve days after that of his brother, William. He moved with his parents from Burr Oak to a farm near New Haven in 1893, and in 1896 to his late home where he lived thirty-eight years. His father died August 1, 1912. On February 17, 1920, he was united in marriage to Effie Belle Sheets of Deerfield. She and their infant son died January 6, 1925. In the spring after her death, George's brother, Walter, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Anna, and their mother moved back from a farm near Elma. Their mother passed away that fall, and since that time they have farmed the home place. George Funte leaves to mourn his death his three sisters: Mrs. Charles Greeley, Riceville, and Lizzie and Anna, Elma; four brothers, A.J. of Riceville; Henry of Alta Vista; Walter of Elma; and Otto of Charles City. His brother, Ed, passed away October 22, 1931, and his brother William on January 5, 1934. George attended his brother, William's, funeral and was in good health, never thinking he would be the next one called to go. Copyright 2004, Merri Cross NOTE: I am not a relative. I found this in a scrapbook, dated 1934.
