OBITUARY: Lorenz G. "Larry" Helfter, 1928-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Based on an obituary in Mitchell County Press online - Aug. 4, 2004] Lorenz G. "Larry" Helfter A memorial service for Lorenz G. "Larry" Helfter, age 75, who died July 28, 2004 in Grand Junction, Colordo, was held Monday, Aug. 2nd at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Junction. A funeral mass was held at St. Peter's Church in New Haven on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Haven, Iowa. Lorenz was born July 6, 1928 in Ogden, Utah. He retired after 30-plus years with the Upjohn Company and spent the last several years working with the Community Soup Kitchen in Grand Junction and was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction. Larry died as a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Larry's devotion to his faith was obvious to anyone who met him. He traveled many miles on his recumbent bike to administer communion and God's message to those in need. Larry also made numerous trips during the year to visit his 99-year-old mother Bernice in Osage, Iowa. Lorenz is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris M. Helfter of Pueblo West, Colorado; and by his children: Phil (Celeste) and grandson, Matthew Helfter of Pueblo; Peter (Loraine) Helfter of Pueblo West; and by David Helfter of Aurora, Colorado. He is also survived by his mother Bernice Helfter, brother Don (Marilyn) Helfter; sister Marilyn (Herb) Johanns of Osage, sister Joanne (Jim) Yarwood, of Rockford, Illinois, and brother Bob (Miranda) Helfter of Oak Island, North Carolina.
