OBITUARY: Ann Klassen, 1902-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa (Based on an obituary in Mitchell County Press online, July 7, 2004) Ann Klassen Ann Klassen, 101, died July 2, 2004 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa. Ann Klassen was born Oct. 17, 1902 in Lawler, Iowa. She was the daughter of Patrick W. and Ann (Murray) Boyle. She attended Mount Carmel High School in Lawler and received a teaching certificate in Loras College in Dubuque. She taught school in Little Turkey, McIntire and Stacyville, Iowa. Ann married Matt Klassen on June 21, 1921 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Lawler. They farmed until retirement. Matt passed away Jan. 1, 1990. She was choir director and organist at St. Mel's Catholic Church from 1938 until she entered the nursing home in Stacyville, Iowa in 1989. She then played for all church services at the rest home until 2002. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Matt, three brothers and two sisters. Ann is survived by two sons, Leonard (Maxine) and Matt Jr. (Viola), both of Adams, Minnesota; four daughters, Madonna (Vern) Blake, Patricia (John) Freeman, Katherine Murphy, all of Waterloo, Iowa, and Joan (Jim) Murray of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
