OBITUARY: Jacky (Snowgren) Maakestad, 1935-2004, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on obituary in Mitchell County Press-News online-posted: AUG 11, 2004] Jacky Maakestad Jacky Maakestad, 68, of Osage, Iowa, died Friday, August 6, 2004, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center following an extended illness. Jacky was born December 14, 1935 in Zearing, Iowa, the daughter of John Hildreth and Ruth Justine (Bretthauer) Snowgren. She graduated from June Senior High in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jacky then attended the University of Iowa. While there she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Following college, Jacky taught music in the Osage, Mitchell and Orchard schools. On March 18, 1960, she was united in marriage to Edwin J. Maakestad. An active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Jacky belonged to the Rachel Circle and taught Cherub Choir for 34 years. She was also involved in numerous local musical events. Funeral services were held Monday, August 9, 2004, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson officiated. Jacky is survived by her husband Edwin Maakestad of Osage, her father John Snowgren of Osage, a daughter, Nicole Maakestad of Des Moines, a son Jon Maakestad of North Liberty and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of arrangements.
