OBITUARY: Christian "Chris" Miller, 1913-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [From Mitchell County-Press-News online (Edited); Posted May 12, 2004] Christian "Chris" Miller A Memorial Service for Christian "Chris" Miller, age 90, of Ashby, Minnesota, will be held Monday, May 17, 2004, at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa. Gary Gilbert will be officiating. Burial will be in the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Iowa. Christian died Thursday, May 6, 2004 as the result of a fire at his home. Christian Miller was born July 3, 1913 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Carl and Helga (Bang) Miller. The family moved to Osage, Iowa, when he was a baby. He grew up near Mitchell, Iowa, where he attended school. Throughout his younger years he worked at different farm jobs. Later he took over his dad's farm near Stacyville, Iowa, to help his brothers out. He moved back to Mitchell, Iowa, where he farmed and worked at Armour & Company (formerly Decker & Sons) at Mason City, Iowa, for 25 years taking early retirement when the plant closed. He then began milking cows and working for different farms in the Mitchell area. On September 13, 1964 he married Leanna Wigant at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had two children, Karl and Laura. In 1979 they moved to the Ashby, Minnesota, area where he farmed and milked cows until a near fatal tractor accident in 1986. He continued to farm until renting the farm out in 1999. He loved to be in his garden and lived for his grandchildren. Christian was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helga Miller, stepmother, Gina Miller, two sisters, Elfrieda Uzlik and Irma Weldin and four brothers, Hans and Lawrence Miller and Linton and Jean Olson. His survivors include his wife, Leanna of Ashby, Minn., children, Karl (Darlane) Miller of Battle Lake, Minn., and Laura (Paul) Heitke of Breckenridge, Minn., three stepchildren, Dawn Young of Osage, Iowa, Wanda Quam of Texas and Bruce (Wendi) Alderman of Charles City, Iowa, 12 grandchildren, Benjamin, Kristina, Candie, Kaitlyn, Luke, Erica, Erin, Brandon, Jesse, Christian, Ethan, and Myckaela, one great-grandchild, Chadler, two sisters, Annie Pajer of Osage, Iowa and Helga Nemeth of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and a brother, Kenneth Goplerud, of St. Ansgar.
