OBITUARY: Alice (Moe) Norby, 1910-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [From Mitchell County-Press-News online (Edited); Posted May 12, 2004] Alice Norby Funeral services for Alice Norby, age 94, of Osage, Iowa, were held Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Alice passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Alice was born March 16, 1910, on the family farm in Cedar Township in Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Olava (Finsand) Moe. She grew up in the Rock Creek area, attended country schools, and graduated from Osage High School in May, 1928. She took her normal training at the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. She taught school in the Rock Creek area. Alice was united in marriage to Herbert Norby on September, 6, 1933, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Meroa, and they made their home on the family farm in rural Osage. She has resided at the Faith Lutheran Home since September 1990. Alice was a life member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed in 1924. She was active in teaching Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and Bible Study Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Olvin Moe, Clarence Moe and Edward Moe; and one sister Mabel Moe. Alice is survived by her husband Herbert Norby of Osage; two daughters: Joan Jacobs and her husband Frank of Osage, and Marlys Smith and her husband Will of Germantown, Tennessee; two sons: Marvin Norby and his wife Edna of Osage, and Dean Norby and his wife Jane of Osage; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
