OBITUARY: Max Merrill Morrison, 1918-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Adapted from: Mitchell County-Press-News online - Posted Feb. 25, 2004 ] Max M. Morrison Funeral services were held for Max Merrill Morrison, 85, of Osage, Iowa, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the United Church of Christ in Osage. Reverend Robert Melhorn will officiate. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Max died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Max Morrison was born June 9, 1918, at Unionville, Iowa, the son of Myron Byrl and Verna (Wamsley) Morrison. He moved with his parents to Mitchell County in 1921 and attended schools in Mitchell County. He was baptized at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in West Lincoln, Mitchell County in 1925. He became a member of the United Church of Christ in 1945 and served on many boards of the church. He married Leone Folsom on Oct. 2, 1937. They farmed all of their married life, until retiring to Osage in 1979. He was active in the Farm Bureau as a farmer, was a 50-year member of the Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M. and was a Past Master of that Lodge. He also served on the Orchard School Board for several years, served on the Faith Lutheran Home Board and was a director on the REC Board at St. Ansgar for 17 years. After the onset of Alzheimers Disease in 1994, he resided for three and one-half years in the Patty Elwood Center at Cresco and for four and one-half years in the Good Samaritan Center. His main interest was being a good farmer. Other interests and enjoyments were being with his family, fishing, golfing and going on many bus tours. He and his wife spent several winters in Arizona and Texas. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leone Morrison on Oct. 20, 2003, one son Murray Morrison in 1979, one grandson Todd Morrison in 1978 and one sister Eloise Ryan in 1999. His survivors include two sons and one daughter Larry Morrison and his wife Cheri and children Kyle Morrison and Sue Miller, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Judenne Kocer of Hiawatha and children Myron Hein of Fremont, Nebraska, and Melinda Whitmer of Platte City, Missouri, Richard Morrison and his wife Sharolyn of Oakland, Minnesota, and children Joel Morrison of Geneva, Minnesota, John Morrison of Humboldt, Matthew Morrison of Shreveport, Louisiana, nine great- grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, two brothers Don Morrison of Osage, Paul Morrison of Kenai, Alaska, and one sister Esther Kemp of Davenport.
