OBITUARY: Deborah Elwell Proctor, 1834-1917, Mitchell County, Iowa Deborah Elwell Proctor Deborah Elwell was born at Brooks, Maine, October 27, 1834, and died at McIntire, Iowa, May 10, 1917, age 82 years, 6 months, and 13 days. She was married to Edwin Proctor on her twentieth birthday at Lowell, Massachusetts. Two years later the young couple came to Iowa and took their homestead from the government, the same farm where they spent the rest of their lives. Mr. Proctor died ten years ago last September. Their only child, Evelyn Leddy, born in 1857, always remained with her parents. There was also but one grandchild, Elizabeth Mabel Eastman, who died March 25, 1912, in her home across the road. Two great-grandchildren, Alvin Eastman, aged 21, and Evelyn Eastman, 11, and the daughter, Mrs. Leddy, remain to mourn the loss of their loved one. In her younger days, she was especially valued in sickness. Mrs. Lizzie Crittenden, orphaned at birth, was taken into her home and kept for two years with her own baby of the same age. The funeral was held at the Methodist church (McIntire) Saturday afternoon, May 12, at two o'clock, and interment was made in Wayne cemetery.
