OBITUARY: George Albert Shupe, 1859-1938, Mitchell Co., Iowa George Albert Shupe George Albert Shupe, eldest son of William and Nancy Shupe, was born near Granger, Minnesota, September 15, 1859, and passed away at his home in McIntire, Iowa, Wednesday, August 17, 1938, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and two days. He was the last of a family of six. His four sisters and a brother have preceded him. When a small lad he moved with his parents to a farm three miles west of McIntire, and except for three years spent in the Dakotas and 6 years at Oelwein, Iowa, his entire life was spent in this community. September 20, 1883, he was married to Eva Potter, of Stacyville, and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive, except the eldest daughter, Perna, who passed away in 1907 at the age of 12 years. Had Mr. Shupe lived until September 20, he and Mrs. Shupe would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Mr. Shupe had been a member of the local Baptist church since 1883. He was a hard working man, never contented unless employed at some labor about the home. He is survived by the widow and four children - Carl, Houghton; Merrill, McIntire; Mrs. Esther Turner, McIntire; and Mrs. Zella McInroy, Riceville; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Bodenham, assisted by the Rev. Eaton, at the home last Friday at 2 pm. Burial was in the McIntire cemetery.
