OBITUARY: Minnie LaBell Griffin Sloan, 1886-1931, Mitchell Co., Iowa Minnie LaBell Griffin Sloan The communities of Bailey and McIntire this week have occasion for sorrow. After a sudden and intense illness, Mrs. Sloan passed away at her home February 21, 1931, at 5:30 pm. Until the week of her sickness Mrs. Sloan enjoyed the best of health. Her sudden departure has come as a distinct shock to her many relatives and friends. Mrs. Sloan's death is the first break in a family of ten children, of whom she was the second. Mrs. Sloan, formerly Miss Minnie LaBell Griffin, was born on the LaBell Ranch, near Madison, South Dakota, July 5, 1886. The family then moved to Taopi, Minnesota, and later to a farm near Bailey. In the summer of 1909 she was married to Mr. Riley Sloan, of Bailey. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan lived in North Dakota for a period of years, during which time five of the children were born. In the fall of 1918 the family returned to Bailey, Iowa. Here another girl was born. Mrs. Sloan enjoyed a happy family life in her home, and her influence was strongly felt in the Baptist church in which she was cheerfully active. Among those of the relatives to mourn her death are: her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Griffin, and nine brothers and sisters, as follows: Orville Griffin, White Earth, North Dakota; Mrs. Myrtle Combs, Glasgow, Montana; Stanley Griffin, Altura, Minnesota; Ada Parr, Bailey, Iowa; Mrs. Hazel Hill, Little Cedar, Iowa; Gilbert Griffin, Empire, Minnesota; Elmo Griffin, Bailey, Iowa; Lee Griffin, Bismarck, North Dakota; Miss Leola Griffin, Bailey, Iowa. In addition to these are her husband, Riley Sloan, and six children: Jerome, Russel, Elsie, Eldon, Robert and Mavis. The heart-felt sympathy of the whole community is extended to Mr. Sloan and the family in their bereavement..
