OBITUARY: Lynn Melbourne Cheney, 1909-1995, Mitchell County, Iowa [MASON CITY (Iowa) GLOBE GAZETTE - Sep. 16, 1995] Lynn Melbourne Cheney OSAGE--Lynn M. Cheney, 86, of Waterloo, formerly of Osage, died Thursday (Sept. 14, 1995) at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of a heart attack. Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Arno H. Melz and the Rev. Clark Christian officiating. There is no visitation. Inurnment will be at Stillwater Cemetery, rural Orchard, with graveside military rites by Osage VFW Post 7920. Lynn Cheney was born on the Cheney Homestead four miles east of Orchard on Aug. 12, 1909. His parents were George V. and Lina May (Gage) Cheney. Lynn graduated from Orchard High School in 1927. He married Evelyn Smith on March 11, 1939, at Waterloo. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. Lynn was employed in the Osage area as a general maintenance man until his retirement in 1993. He was a life member of the VFW. Lynn is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cheney, of Waterloo; one daughter Lina Marie (Mrs. Gene) Taber of Waterloo; seven grandchildren. 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
