OBITUARY: Mary Justina (Nelson) Christianson, 1881-1964, Mitchell Co., Iowa Mary Justina Nelson Christianson Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Christianson, 82, were held Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran church. Mrs. Christianson died at Mitchell county Memorial hospital last Thursday after being a patient there two weeks. Her illness was caused by pneumonia and later a stroke. Her death was due to a heart attack. The Rev. Donald Berg, pastor at Rock Creek Lutheran, was in charge of the services. C.R. Champion and Sons made the arrangements and burial was in the church cemetery. Mary Justina Nelson was born in Rock Township, Mitchell County on November 30, 1881, the daughter of Erik and Inger Syverud Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran, where she remained a lifelong member. She attended the rural school in Rock Township and remained all her life in that area with the exception of two years spent in North Dakota as a hotel cook. She was united in marriage to Theodore Christianson on April 27, 1921. The couple farmed in Cedar and Rock townships, continuing to live on the farm following retirement. Surviving are two daughters, Inez of Osage; Arlene (Mrs. Delmer) Rudolph of Janesville, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Darold and Colleen Rudolph; and one brother, Theodore Nelson of Rockford. Her husband, Ted, who died January 18, 1964; her parents; two sisters and one brother preceded her in death: Clara (Mrs. O.) Leverson, Emma (Mrs. George) Krogstad, Carl Nelson of the Rock Creek community. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
