OBITUARY: L. Grace (Shaffer) Dohler, 1909-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, June 26, 1996 (edited)] L. Grace Dohler ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--L. Grace Dohler, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Monday, June 24, 1996, at the Good Samaritan Center, where she had resided since August of 1994. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. A Private interment will be held at the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Grace was born at Pipestone, Minn., on Feb. 18, 1909, to Edward G. and Dora (Lesch) Shaffer. Following graduation from Pipestone School, she moved with her family to a ranch near Rapid City, S.D. It was there she married Jerry Dohler on Feb. 18, 1935. Following their marriage, they were engaged in ranching, raising cattle and wheat, until 1951, when they moved to the St. Ansgar area. She was active in the United Methodist Church and its women's activities, the St. Ansgar Garden Club, and 4-H clubs where she was a leader and county committee woman. She and Jerry enjoyed the friendships made while spending 11 winters in Texas and Arizona. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of St. Ansgar; three daughters, Dora and her husband, Dick Biederman of Osage, and their son, Jon of West Union; Una Bleess and her husband, John Gerdes of Blue Earth, Minn., and her children, Debra, Nicholas and wife, Michelle and Ashley, all of Blue Earth, Minn., and Julie of Mankato, Minn.; Sandra and her husband, Marvin Hulshizer of Georgetown, Texas, and their children, Monica of Georgetown, Texas, and Scot of Huntsville, Texas; and one son, Royal Dohler and his wife, Barbara, of St. Ansgar, and their daughters, Dawn of Iowa City, Tracy and her husband, Eric Stenseth of Chicago, Ill., and Carmen of Livonia, Mich. Grace is survived by one great-grandson, Nicholas Bleess IV of Blue Earth, Minn. The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
