OBITUARY: Gunhild (Julia) Olsdatter Christiansmoen Moe Field, 1864-1943, Mitchell Co., Iowa Gunhild Moe Field The sudden death of Mrs. Martin Field Sunday evening was a shock to the whole community. She had been in apparent good health and was about her home. At about 8 o’clock she suffered a heart attack and died instantly. Gunhild (Julia) Olsdatter Christiansmoen was born in Valdres, Norway on April 15th, 1864 the daughter of Ole Olsen Christiansmoen and Guri Olsdatter Maafaa. She was the third child in a family of eight children. When she was about a year old, she immigrated with her parents and two brothers to America. They first came to Dane County, WI where they lived about a year. From there they moved to Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. They lived temporarily in the Thideman Docken cabin until purchasing a farm in Cedar Township where they established their home. It was about this time they began using Moe as their surname. She has been a life-long member of the Lutheran church. She was baptized in Norway and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church where she was an active member until the time of her passing. She spent about 74 of her 76 years in Mitchell County. On June 3, 1892 Gunhild was united in marriage to Martin Field. To them four children were born: Mina (Mrs. Milton) Wamstad, Gea (Mrs. Tillman) Norby, and Oscar and Olga at home. Preceding her in death are three brothers: Ole, Gilbert, and Martin; and three sisters: Lena, Kari, and Mary. There remain to mourn her passing, her husband, her four children, five grandsons and one granddaughter, five great-grandchildren and one brother George Moe, all of the Rock Creek community, besides other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Field celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary a year ago. Funeral services are being held this afternoon, Thursday, at 1 o’clock at home, and at 2 o’clock at her Rock Creek Lutheran church with the Rev. C. Blaine Gunderson officiating.
