OBITUARY: Gertie C. Haugen, 1893-1972, Mitchell Co., Iowa Gertie C. Haugen Funeral rites were held in Osage Friday for Miss Gertie Haugen, 78, who died August 10th after being confined to Mitchell County Memorial hospital for ten weeks. Prior to that she was a resident of Faith Lutheran Home for five weeks. The Rev. Robert Floy, associate pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran church, was in charge of the services and arrangements were made by C.R. Champion and Sons. Burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Gertie Constance Haugen was born in the Rock Creek community on August 17, 1893, the daughter of Olaus and Lydia Maakestad Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran church, growing to womanhood on the family farm. She was a homemaker and also served as organist at Rock Creek Lutheran church for twenty-five years. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and one sister. Surviving are two brothers: Ernest and Arthur of Osage; four sisters: Mrs. Harry (Norma) Lewka of Ackley, Mrs. W.F. (Evelyn) Oldenburg of Rock Rapids, Mrs. C.S. (Olga) Christianson of St. Paul and Mrs. Ernest (Margaret) Walters of Lehigh Acres, FL. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
