OBITUARY: John "Al" Holmen, c1925-2004, Mitchell County, Iowa

                           John "Al" Holmen

Funeral services were held for John "Al" Holmen, age 79, of McIntire,
Iowa, on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at the McIntire Methodist Church in
McIntire, Iowa. The Rev. Michael Carey officiated.

Burial was in the Wayne Cemetery in rural McIntire. "Al" passed away at
his residence on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 after an extended illness.

John Alvin Holmen was born in rural LeRoy, Minnesota, to John Holmen
and Alma Hegge. John attended local schools and later worked as a
truck driver for a construction company in Hopkins, Minnesota, for
19 years.

On May 21, 1963, "Al" was united in marriage to Florence Butterfield
in La Crescent, Minn.

Preceding John in death were his parents and two brothers.

His survivors include his wife, Florence of McIntire, one son, John
and his wife Connie of Riceville, Iowa, two daughters: Sharon Lange
of Waterloo and Lori Kramer and her husband Mark of McIntire;
24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great
grandchildren. Also surviving are six extended family members:
Sharon Runde and her husband Leo; Daniel Hockens and his wife
Lura and Judi Hanna and her husband Marvin, all of McIntire, Iowa;
Nancy Robertson and husband Herb of Minneapolis, Minn.; Kim Derry
and her husband Rick of Rose Creek, Minn., and Sindee Koenigs and
her husband Mark of Meyer, Iowa.
