OBITUARY: Martin Johnson, 1882-1943, Mitchell County, Iowa Martin Johnson Martin Johnson, age 61, died at his home in Mason City last Thursday evening following an illness of about three years. He had been confined to his bed for a month. Mr. Johnson was born February 22, 1882, in Cedar Township, Mitchell county, Iowa to John N. and Jane Nelson Johnson. He moved to Mason City about 35 years ago. He never married and his widowed sister, Mrs. Belle Carroll, Mason City, made her home with him for a number of years. Surviving is a brother, Edward E. Johnson, of Springer, NM, a former Osage clothing merchant; also a sister, Mrs. Belle Carroll, of Mason City, and several nephews and nieces. His parents, a brother, Nicholai Johnson, well-known Meroa resident, and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Smalley, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Patterson Funeral home in Mason City and at 2:30 at the Rock Creek Lutheran church. The Rev. Rogness, pastor of the deceased, conducted the services. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery. Edward Johnson came from Springer, NM, to be present at the last rites. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
