OBITUARY: Clara Johnson, 1882-1964, Mitchell County, Iowa Clara Johnson Funeral services were held at the Champion Funeral Home Wednesday for Clara Johnson, 82, who died Saturday in Phoenix, AZ. The Rev. Donald L. Berg, pastor of Rock Creek Lutheran church, was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery. Clara Johnson was born on February 1, 1882 in Cedar Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Johnson. A schoolteacher from 1898 to 1947, she taught many years in country schools and later taught typing in Maywood, IL. After her retirement from teaching, she lived for 16 years with her sister, Mrs. Olive Howe of rural Osage. Since then she has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. John Barr in Phoenix. Mrs. Barr is her niece. Miss Johnson had been in poor health and had been in hospitals and nursing homes since May. Her parents, four sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Howe of Osage and several nieces and nephews. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
