OBITUARY: Johan Nicholai Johnson 1864-1939 Mitchell County, Iowa Johan Nicholai Johnson Our departed friend and brother, John Nicholai Johnson was born on the old Johnson homestead in the Rock Creek vicinity, Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on October 25, 1864 to John N. and Jane Nelson Johnson. On this place he lived for sixty years until August 1924, when he moved to Osage, where he resided until the time of his death. On June 23, 1897, he entered into holy matrimony with Thea Caroline Norby of this vicinity, and their marriage was blessed with three children: Herbert Johnson, Mrs. Kalmar (Thelma) Klemesrud, and Mrs. Lloyd (Nora) Gillerman, all living in this community. He is survived by his wife, three children, six grandchildren, two brothers: Edward E. Johnson, of Springer, NM, and Martin Johnson of Mason City; and two sisters, Mrs. E.E. Smalley, of Osage, and Mrs. Belle Carroll, of Mason City. About thirty years ago, Mr. Johnson submitted to a major operation, but has since enjoyed good health until about a year ago. About two weeks ago his condition became serious and he was obliged to submit to two major operations at St. Mary’s hospital, Rochester, MN. From the second operation, he failed to recover and an attack of bronchial pneumonia terminated his temporal life, June 28, 1939. Mr. Johnson has always been a loyal, active, an exemplary member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church, a good neighbor and true friend. Blessed with a cheerful disposition, he met all his sufferings and trials in the spirit of Christian resignation to the will of the Lord. Blessed be his memory! Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the Champion Funeral home at 1 o’clock p.m. and at the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 p.m., on July 1st.
