OBITUARY: Bertha Helen (Johnson) Larson, 1877-1939, Mitchell County, Iowa Bertha Helen Johnson Larson Mrs. Peter B. Larson died at her home south of Osage last Friday, after a long period of poor health. Her illness began following and automobile accident in which she suffered a broken vertebra. Soon after she was brought home from the hospital at Rochester other trouble developed. Bertha Helen Johnson Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Johnson, was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County on December 15, 1877. She was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, and her whole life was spent in this community. She received her education in the rural schools and in the Cedar Valley seminary. She taught the rural schools of Cedar Township for eight years. On February 27, 1906 she was married to Peter B. Larson. On November 19, 1938, she suffered a stroke from which she never recovered, passing away on April 7th. The cause of her death was heart disease with complications. Besides her husband, three children survive: Dr. John Larson of Duluth, Minnesota, Mary and Philip at home. Also one brother, O.J. Johnson, of this vicinity, and five sisters: Mrs. Nellie Wood of Colfax, Iowa; Mrs. Lewis Field of Manly, Iowa; Mrs. Eric Wahl of Otranto, Iowa; Miss Clara Johnson of Maywood, Illinois; and Mrs. Olive Howe of Osage. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. O.C. Myhre at the family home at 1 o’clock and at the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 1:30 p.m. on April 10th.
