OBITUARY: Katherine Marie (Nelson) Larson, 1868-1938, Mitchell County, Iowa Katherine Marie Nelson Larson Mrs. L.B. Larson, nee Katherine Marie Nelson, was born in Rudd Township, Floyd County, Iowa on November 27, 1868. The years of her childhood and youth were spent in the parental home. She received her secular education in the rural school of her community and her Christian education in the Rock Creek Lutheran church. In this church, she was confirmed and received into communion by Pastor JohanOlson on May 20, 1883. On May 25, 1892 she was united in marriage to Louis B. Larson by Pastor Sigurd Olson at the Rock Creek Lutheran church. This church she loved and has always been a loyal and active member. Immediately after their marriage they located on their farm in Cedar Township, Mitchell county, Iowa, where she continued to live until the time of her death. In her wedlock five children were born: Elmer, Lloyd, Bert, Clifford, and Mrs. Rosella Troge, all of this community. Nine grandchildren also survive: Leland, Kenneth, Melbourne, Donald, Loren, Russell, and Phyllis Larson, and William and Katherine Troge. Besides her husband children, two brothers and two sisters survive her: Albert and Oscar Nelson, Mrs. Martin (Emilia) Maakestad, and Mrs. Pete (Bertina) Naig, all of this community. Mrs. Larson has been in poor health for many years, submitted to many operations and has spent several months in the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. She has, however, borne her suffering patiently and in full resignation to the Lord’s will. In spite of the best of care at all times, an attack of pneumonia on December 26th was more than her weakened condition could overcome. She died on December 27, 1938, at the age of 70 years and 1 month. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre, at 1 p.m. from the family home and at 2 o’clock, December 30, 1938 at Rock Creek Lutheran church. Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
