OBITUARY: Armond W. Braun, 1916-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, Sept. 28, 1996 (edited)] Armond W. Braun ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--Armond W. Braun, 80, of St. Ansgar, died Friday, Sept. 27, 1996, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa with the Rev. Gregory Bjornstad officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery. Armond W. Braun was born March 9, 1916, in Barton Township, Worth County, Iowa, the son of Otto and Alvina (Walk) Braun. He was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, on April 30, 1916, by the Rev. John Landdeck and consummated his baptismal vows on March 29, 1931, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, by the Rev. Carl Landdeck. He received his elementary education in rural Worth County school system near Grafton. On Oct. 6, 1940, he married Marcella Schmidt of Grafton at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, by the Rev. Herman Lechner. They lived on the family farm until 1967 when they moved to St. Ansgar at which time he worked for the Mitchell County Highway Department for 14 years, retiring in 1982. While on the farm, he also drove school bus for St. Ansgar and Grafton school systems for many years. He taught Sunday school for a number of years and served on church council for years. Armond is survived by his wife, Marcella, of St. Ansgar; one son, James and his wife, Barbara, of Forest City; three daughters, Mavis Ashland and her husband, Charles, of Britt; Diane Luepke and her husband, Lynn, of Ankeny, Joan Bidne and her husband, Loren, of Kiester, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Jared Ashland and wife, Nancy, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Sarah Steiner and husband, Ken, of Rapid City, S.D.; Tamara Barnard and husband, Randy, of New Virginia; Stacy Braun of Omaha, Neb.; Michelle Braun of Cedar Falls; Latham Luepke of Ankeny; Alissa Luepke of Minneapolis, Minn.; Valeri Luepke of Cedar Falls; Jennifer Bidne, Janelle Bidne and Jeanette Bidne, all of Kiester, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Carrie Ashland of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother, Everett of Grafton; three sisters, Dorothy Rademaker of Manly; Gertrude Merkel of Mason City and Evelyn Nelson of Lime Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Violet and Hazel; and one brother, Harvey. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Homes of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.
