OBITUARY: Carlin Counsell, 1930-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; May 15, 1997] Carlin Counsell CRESCO, IOWA--Carlin Counsell, age 66, of Cresco, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 13, [1997], at the North Iowa Mercy Health Care Center, Mason City. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 16th, at the United Methodist Church, Cresco, with the Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery, Osage, Iowa. Carlin Counsell was born June 28, 1930, near New Haven in Mitchell County, the son of Ernest and Myrtle (Anderson) Counsell. He attended rural school and graduated from Osage High School in 1948. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Carlin married Beverly Cameron on July 13, 1974, at the Methodist Church in Riceville. He farmed in the New Haven area until 1974, and then was employed by New Haven Livestock. From 1978 to 1993, he owned and operated Carlin's Pizza in Cresco. Carlin served on the Cresco City Council for seven years and was mayor of Cresco for the years, 1981 and 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Post #135 in Cresco. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Counsell of Cresco; his mother, Myrtle Counsell of Osage; six daughters, Ann Steenhard and her husband, Alan, of Mason City; Sharon Counsell of Cedar Rapids; Nancy Goebel and her husband, Jerry, of Oskaloosa; Robin Emerson and her husband, Joe, of Pinelles Park, Florida.; Susan Hyke and her husband, Kenny, of Creso; and Kandice Becker and her husband, Ryan, of Cresco; three sons, Michael Counsell and his wife, Penny, of Osage; Mark Rollins of Dubuque;; and Joel Rollins and his wife, Nancy, of Claremont, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grand- children; and one sister, Ruth Wiegers of Boise, Idaho.
