OBITUARY: Antonette (Docken) Maakestad, 1869-1965, Mitchell Co., Iowa Antonette Docken Maakestad 1869-1965 Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for one of Osage's senior citizens, Mrs. Nettie Maakestad, 96, who died Monday at Mitchell County Memorial hospital. Mrs. Maakestad had been in good health until Sunday afternoon when she suffered a severe stroke. She was taken to the hospital and died the following morning. The Rev. Donald Berg, church pastor, was in charge of the services at Rock Creek Lutheran church, where she maintained her membership. C.R. Champion and Sons made the arrangements and burial was in the Osage cemetery. Antonette Docken was born December 18, 1869 in a log cabin on the Docken homestead, the fifth of eleven children born to Tidemand and Gunhild Asleson Docken. She was baptized prior to the construction of the church at Rock Creek, and was confirmed there in early womanhood. She attended the Meroa school. Her marriage to Syver J. Maakestad took place on November 9, 1890. They farmed in the Meroa area until March 1940, when they retired to her present home in Osage. Mrs. Maakestad remained an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church until the time of her death. Until recent years she took part in affairs of the women’s organizations. Preceding her in death were her husband, Syver; her parents, one daughter, Stella; one son, Theodore; seven sisters, three brothers and three grandchildren. She was the last remaining member of the Docken family. Surviving are two sons: Oliver and Myron of Osage; two daughters: Mrs. Arthur (Gertie) Sponheim of Osage, and Mrs. Knud (Stella) Klemesrud of Pewaukee, WI; five grandchildren, fifteen great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
