                       The Rev. John Gilbert

OSAGE, IOWA--The Rev. John Gilbert, 81, of Osage, died Tuesday, Aug. 6,
1996, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Church
of Christ, with the Rev. Pam Webb and the Rev. Herschel Hawf officiating.

Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
                                                                
Visitation will be held Friday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage.

John Gilbert was born July 30, 1915, on a farm northeast of Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Osage; one sister, Ona Butler of
Rudd; and two brothers, Max Gilbert of Russiaville, Ind., and Lawrence
Gilbert of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
