OBITUARY: Helen A. (Hoisington) Benson, 1900-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, Aug. 16, 1996 (edited)] Helen A. Benson ORCHARD, IOWA--Helen A. Benson, 96, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Orchard, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 1996, at Western Home, Cedar Falls. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at the First Baptist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage. Helen was born Aug. 4, 1900, at Orchard, the daughter of Guy and Della (Boyle) Hoisington. Helen graduated from Orchard High School. She married Paul A. Benson on March 15, 1921. Helen lived in Mitchell County until 1960. She was employed as a cook at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, and the Western Home in Cedar Falls. She had resided in Cedar Falls since 1969. Survivors include one daughter, Imogene Barton and her husband, Dean, of Hockessin, Del.; five sons, Wayne Benson and his wife, Audrey, of Rudd; Guy Benson and his wife, Nedra, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; Wesley Benson and his wife, Pat, of Cedar Falls; Darwin Benson and his wife, Carol, of Cedar Rapids, and John Benson and his wife, Mick, of Red Bluff, Calif.; one brother, Vernon Hoisington of Osage; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul A. Benson, in 1947; one son, Paul Dean Benson, in 1993; two sisters; one brother; and three granddaughters.
